THE EMMAUS WALK PRESENTS:

"The Search for a Black Savior,"

by Wm. L. Banks

Men who search the bible for race identification often quote Job 30:30: "My sin is black upon me...," or Jeremiah 8:21: "i am black..."

However, neither Job nor Jeremiah dealt with skin color as a racial characteristic. Both spoke of desapair, dismay and disappointment. They had the "blacks." Today we have the "blues".

The search fo race identification has led others to John's descrption of Christ in the Book of Revelation. We read in chapter 1, verse 14: "His head and his hairs were white like wool..." That wooly head and hair means Christ was a Black Man, right?

No. Not necessarily. "White like wool" emphasizes color, not material. And white hair signifies old age and wisdom. John wanted to show that the Lord Jesus Christ, holy and all-wise Lord Jesus Christ, holy and all-wise, was none other thant he Ancient of Days (Daniel 7:9, 13, 22).

The point is this: We have no proof or evidence that Jesus Christ was a Black Man. In fact, we don't know what color He was.

But now, for the sake of argument, suppose He was one of US. Suppose you could identify with Him racially. What difference would it make? What would you DO with Him? I mean, would you then believe that He shed His blood ont he cross for your sins?

Or is it that you're more interested in the SKIN issue than in the SIN issue?

You see, no matter what the color of our skin is, sin is in our hearts. We show our sinful nature by crime, drunkenness, hatred, murder, racism, war, etc. And the end result is death, which is hell.

So, if you want to save your skin, you'd better get the sin problem straightened out. And the only One who can fix you up is Jesus Christ. He has no hang-ups about sin color and race. Indeed, He said, "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw ALL men unto me." (John 12:32).

The Christ of the Bible--whatever His color--is able to meet the needs of Black men and women, Black boys and girls. So there is no need to search the scriptures for a Black Savior. What we need to do is accept the Savior who is there--Jesus Christ who died for all men, be they black, brown, red, yellow, or white.

Believe on Him--as He is. and He will accept you--as you are.

"Hallelujah, I have found Him

Whom my soul so long, has craved!

Jesus satisfies my longing;

Through His blood I now am saved."
