Subject: Washington State pro-abortion bill fails to pass, thank you
The response was overwhelming. Last Friday I told you about a bill (H.B. 1366) in the Washington State legislature that if passed, would have forced many pro-life pregnancy centers to shut down due to new burdensome and expensive regulations - targeting only pro-life centers.
We asked you to immediately contact your legislators in the Washington State House of Representatives, and thousands of you responded almost immediately.
I am excited to report that because of your prompt action, this pro-abortion bill failed to even get a vote and is now effectively dead for this legislative session.
This bill would have forced pro-life pregnancy centers to place a disclaimer over their doors, listing the services they do not provide, such as abortions; and it would have allowed anyone ''aggrieved'' by a pro-life center to sue them.
The ACLJ was engaged in this fight from the beginning, sending a letter to every member of the Washington House Rules Committee explaining why this bill would violate the First Amendment and the Washington Constitution.
Had this bill passed, it would have had a devastating result - unconstitutionally restricting the free speech rights of pro-life pregnancy centers. This was an attempt by pro-abortion forces to effectively shut down efforts to help expectant mothers choose to save their unborn babies.
This victory for the unborn is your victory! Because you took a stand, pro-life pregnancy centers in Washington State will continue to operate, saving unborn babies.
