There are 66 books in all; this may seem too formidable to read all the way through in the thinking of most people, but it can be done by ordinary people, not just marathon readers, as I have accomplished a reading of most the Bible this past year (though I confess I was racing through the last books of the
NT, just to finish the task, which is not the way to do it). Some people are able to read the Bible through on their own, without a set schedule. More power to them! Others, like myself, find a scheduled reading most helpful. It can keep one reading on to the finish, and not get bogged down. Why read the whole Bible? Because, as the writer of Revelation says at the end, you will be blessed! God blesses all who take the time to read His precious Word! Your knowledge will be increased. You will find out what the Bible actually says, not just what is told you it says. You find out for yourself, in other words, what God is speaking to you in His written Testament, Old and New. Testament means Covenant, by the way, so this is a Covenanting God who is showing you all that it means to be covenanted as an adopted son or daughter of God, if you have taken the step of believing in Jesus as your Savior and have confessed your faith in the Lord to others publicly. If you have not done so yet, why not read God's Word and find out what it means to be a true son or daughter of God, a child of light instead of darkness? You will not regret doing so. It can only bring you blessing, and even life eternal in Jesus Christ the Savior of the World. A schedule for reading the Bible through in one year will soon be offered on this site. Please return for it. Or pick up one at your local Bible bookstore. But any way you choose to do it, read God's Word. It is life-changing, even if you are already a believer in Jesus.--R.G.
