Note: This message (which is a newsletter sent to my mother, who regularly attended Lutheran Renewal meetings and probably heard Dr. Twilah Fox speak as a guest speaker) is a vital follow-up to the Billy Graham message given at the Congressional Gold Medal award event, June 1996 in the Capitol Rotunda before 700 dignataries and government leaders. Twilah Fox's message was given in 1992, as a warning to the nation, which went unheeded. So did Billy Graham's, which was given in 1996. Then came the catastrophe of 9/11, which could have been averted if only we had chosen in 1992 and later in 1996 to repent as individuals and as a nation gone astray on the wrong road. Can we turn around now, in 2009? We are still not utterly destroyed, those total destruction is coming, perhaps in the next hour or the next days or months, but it is coming, for God and his Holy Word is not mocked--his commandments will not be flouted and disobeyed and blasphemed by any nation, however great, without judgment and destruction falling upon that nation and people, though it comes in God's chosen time, not ours. We still have a chance to escape destruction, if we will repent now. Why not? What do we have to lose? We have everything to gain by repentance and turning back to God.--Ed.

PART ONE

Almost 2000 yeas ago Jesus entered into this spiritually darkened planet. He was and is heard and received by the chosen. He enters their hearts, making them citizens of His heavenly kingdom. His nature becomes their nature and that lovely nature is diametrically opposed to all that is of the darkness. The Church, the body of Christ is the only institution on earth that has any light. It is her duty to shine on in the darkness and by word and deed proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to all the nations.

Light vs Darkness

What we have mostly overlooked is that the darkness is a living thing and has a living ruler who actively opposes the conversion of souls of men. On an international scale, the wars of this world seem to be fought for the gaining of territory of the ruling over nations, ostensibly for their own good. Outside of Christ, such issues can never be resolved, for Satan is behind these wars and longs to rule God's planet himself. For now, communism (godless atheism) seems to have fallen, but unless the kingdom of God can be rapidly advanced and men converted to Christ, the adversary, the great dragon of the Bible will come up with some new "ism" [and he has, Islam-ism, which is allied with anti-Christian, anti-Semitic and atheistic secularism, which is now headed by President Baraq Obama--Ed]. Remember, before the Russians came to power there was Hitler and Nazi Germany to be dealt with. The God-hating, atheistic spirits behind communism still live and are planning their next move even at this moment. But what has all this got to do with you and me sitting safely here in the USA? Everything! Our freedom could be snatched away much quicker than we think. We are yet free, not because we are a democracy, but because America has been Christian; we are slipping fast and our nation has already changed much more than we realize.

We are no longer free to read the Bible or pray in public settings, e.g., school. Millions of our tax dollars go to fund abortions, homosexual activities and pornography (called art) which directly contribute to crimes against womena nd children. Then there are the thousands of cases of aids, crack babies and other drug related problems. The bottom line is sin is to blame. Humanists and new age advocates object to Jesus Christ and these folks abound in high places in government [many of them seated listening to Billy Graham give his message of warning to the nation at the Congressional Gold Medal award event in the Rotunda, June 1996!], not to mention the communists among us. People who know and love Jesus walk in His ways and obey Him, His ways are love, mercy and compassion.

Christians here in America have been so consumed with their own personal business, pursuing careers, acquiring homes, education, raising families, enjoying our blessings and taking them for granted. They are unaware that yonder is the darkness, on the other side of the world, thousands of fellow Christians suffer in prisons, tortured, starved and dying in the hands of godless atheists, who are gripped and ruled unknowingly by satan himself.

Nero Fiddled While Rome Burned

[During the 1930s and 1940s] The whole world went blissfully on, ignornant to the fact that Hitler was exterminating 6 million Jews in the holocaust. We, the Church have evidently again not known that thousands of Christians in every nation over-run by communism have suffered unmercifully at the cruel hands of the oppressors. "Nero fiddled while Rome burned." We have been lulled into a blissful slumber by the pulpits of the American Churches. We have majored in personal healing, prosperity, entertainment and improving our self-esteem, healing our memories, fashionable homes, cars and clothing. Caught up in knit-picking over words, confessions of everything good, in our eyes, while this darkness has crept steadily onward.

[Here is a striking illustration, an incident from my own experience. My former pastor said to me when I mentioned what was happening in Massachusetts with the legalization of homosexual marriage, with his wife and others standing around listening to him, that he did not care about homosexual marriage turning legal in Massachusetts as long as it wasn't in his own state yet, though I knew myself it soon would be as the issue was being promoted even while he spoke in our state legislature! At the time, I did not want to contradict him before his own family but thought, "This is the Hezekiah complex or attitude--that, 'as long as it doesn't happen to me here in my time yet, I don't have to be concerned about it happening later or someplace else'"; for a pastor, this was certainly not a good attitude to show his parishioners, but, sadly, thousands of pastors are ensnared in this tragic "Hezikiah syndrome," Hezikiah being the king of Judah said to the warning prophet that he did not care if his country was invaded later by the Babylonians who would sack the Temple and the place and the city of Jerusalem as long as he had peace in his own lifetime.--Ed.].

Covering much of Europe, it [darkness of this satanic world system and its oppression of Christians] has leaped the oceans and advanced upon all of South America and defiantly lifts its head, just 200 miles from our shores on the island of Cuba.

Can it be that thousands of our Christian brothers are imprisoned, tortured and killed so close to America the beautiful, the home of the free and the brave? Their only crime is that of being Christian and livuing life so as to convert others. Pastor Richard Wurmbrand [who founded VOICE OF THE MARTYRS magazine in the U.S.], a Romanian, imprisoned and tortured for 14 years says of all the communists, "everything in these countries--radio, television, cinema, theater, press, publishing houses--has the aim of stamping out belief in God."

Do we not know that same thing is happening in America right today? A few days ago, from a southern state, a young Christian student called me for prayer. In her sociology class, a required course, the professor is an atheist who hates God and conveys this with every lecture. He blasphemes, mocks and ridicules Christianity so effectively it is common knowledge that he breaks the faith of many college students and they turn from Christ under the constant barrage. My young friend told me she is beginning to be overwhelmed with depression as this man toys with their minds. The taxpapers of this stagte surely dod not know about him, but it is happening everywhere. Yet she has to take that course and pass it. So she has no choice...Once the Church becomes luke-warm, perhaps by feeding on false doctrine, complacency sets in and the next step is slumber; while she is sleeping her light goes out and the darkness advances.

In the book, Decline of the West, Oswald Spengler wrote, "You are dying. I see in you all the characteristic stigma of decay. I can prove that your great wealth and your great poverty, your capitalism and your socialism, your wars and revolutions, your atheism and your pessimism and your cynicism, your immorality, your broken-down marriages, your birth control, that is bleeding you from the bottom and killing you off at the top in your brains,--can prove to you that these are characteristic marks of the dying stages of ancient states." Spengler wrote this in 1938. SURELY THE DEATH RATTLE IS EVEN NOW IN OUR THROATS!
